Sanquelim woman cheated
BICHOLIM: A man impersonating as a bank official cheated a person from Sanquelim to the tune of Rs 31,435.
According to Bicholim Police, Shital Gawas of Housing Board Colony, Sanquelim, complained that the accused person impersonated himself as a bank official and obtained details of her bank account and withdrew cash of Rs 31,435 through the ATM, thereby cheating her.
Bicholim Police registered the case under Sections 419, 420 IPC and Section 66-D of Information Technology Act. Police Inspector R A Shetgaonkar is investigating the case.
Unidentified male found dead
PORVORIM: An unidentified male body was found at Mapusa market on Tuesday.
According to Mapusa Police, the body of the deceased, who is suspected to be in his early forties, was moved to the GMC morgue in Bambolim for post-mortem. PSI R A Kalangutkar is investigating the case.
Woman abused, assaulted at Palyem
PORVORIM: A woman has accused a man from Palyem-Ucassaim of abusing, assaulting and threatening her at Palyem.
According to Mapusa Police, the victim woman complained that the accused abused her, assaulted her with slap and also threatened her with dire consequences to kill, causing her injury and outraging her modesty. Head Constable S A Gaonkar is investigating the case.
Cigarette stolen from parked truck
VASCO: Some persons stole 24 cartons of cigarettes from a parked truck near Chowgule warehouse at Zuari Nagar-Sancoale.
According to Verna Police, Chandpasha Masuldar of Pune, but residing at Curti-Ponda, complained that on March 29, some persons tore the tarpaulin of a truck (GA-03-K-2100) and stole 24 cartons of cigarettes from the truck which was parked in an open parking place near Chowgule warehouse, Zuari Nagar-Sancoale. Russian accused of visa violation
CURCHOREM: A Russian woman has been accused of carrying out business in the State, thereby violating the visa rule.
According to Quepem Police, the woman, presently residing at Deuimol-Shirvoi, Quepem, violated the visa rule by carrying out business in India between April 28, 2010 till date, by joining as an additional director in a company while on a tourist visa, thereby violating the visa rule. PI Ram Asare is investigating the case.
Raid nets Rs 25 lakh in Goan car
BELGAUM: In a raid carried out along the Belgaum-Goa road near Kankumbi, police have seized cash of Rs 20 lakh from a Goan vehicle.
According to Khanapur Police, cash of Rs 20.25 lakh was seized from a Goa-registered car late Monday night. Though it was not clear, sources said the cash was being carried towards payment to KMF, Belgaum, for the settlement of the milk payments.
Dacoity accused granted bail
MARGAO: Noted criminal Javed Shaik who was arrested by the Maina-Curtorim police for allegedly committing dacoity was granted conditional bail by South Goa Additional Sessions Judge Vincent D’Silva.
The court in its order directed the release of the accused on personal bond with a surety while directing the accused to report to the Maina-Curtorim police for five days and not to tamper with evidence.
Lolienkar bail plea heard
MARGAO: Special Judge Nutan Sardesai on Wednesday heard arguments on the bail application filed by Arvind Lolienkar, director of Mines & Geology, who was arrested on March 29 for allegedly conspiring on illegal mining with Kanpur-bases private company Frost International limited (FIL).
Senior Advocate Surendra Dessai argued on behalf of the accused Lolienkar while the State was represented by the Special Public Prosecutor A Bhobe.
On August 12, 2013, a complaint was filed by Prasana A Acharya, director of Mines & Geology and CID registered offence under various section of the law against accused under Prevention of Corruption Act and various mining and Minerals Conservation & Development Rules.
The Crime Branch Special Investigating Team who arrested Lolienkar booked him under section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and section 7, 12 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for shielding the companies illegalities.
Bandekar is Loliem-Polem VP deputy
CANACONA: Ashutosh Bandekar was on Wednesday unanimously elected as deputy sapranch of the nine-member Loliem-Polem Panchayat.
It may be recalled that a month ago, former deputy sarpanch Vinda Satarkar was voted out of office in a no-confidence motion.
Satarkar and another Panch Shilpa Deikar did not attend the special meeting convened to elect the new deputy sarpanch. Sarpanch Bhushan Prabhugaonkar, besides six other ruling panchas voted in favour of Bandekar.
The meeting was presided over by Canacona BDO extension officer Biva Velip in the presence of panchayat secretary, informed sources.
