MAYEM: Tension prevailed outside a factory at Bicholim, when workers reportedly foiled attempts by the company to shift hazardous chemicals from the site.
The 121 workers, who have been protesting the sudden closure of the company’s unit at Bicholim since the last six months, stopped the company officials from attempting to shift the chemicals elsewhere.
“We will not allow the company to close down its shutters or to shift the materials or chemicals from the factory unless the issue of the workers is resolved,” said a union leader.
It may be recalled that the company was started in 2003 and was running smoothly until 2011. The company reportedly shut down the business in March this year, leaving 121 workers in the lurch.
A police force was rushed to the site to diffuse the tension. Local MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, also visited the site
