INSV Mhadei returns home
VASCO: ‘INSV Mhadei’ reached Goa on Sunday morning on completion of a 17,000 nautical mile long voyage from Goa to Rio de Janeiro and back. The boat, which berthed alongside at INS Mandovi boat pool and her crew were received by Adm (Retd) Arun Prakash. The Mhadei had departed from Goa for Cape Town in November last year to take part in the 2014 edition of the trans-Atlantic race ‘Cape2Rio.’ The boat was skippered by Cdr Dilip Donde and sailed by a crew of three that included Cdr MVV Satish (trainee skipper), Cdr TGS Bedi and Lt Cdr Shweta Kapur. Cape2Rio is an iconic race sailed between Cape Town in South Africa and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil over a distance of 3,300 nautical miles. Cape2Rio 2014 began on January 4 with 35 boats at the start line vying for the South Atlantic cup.
Pissurlem sarpanch, deputy election on Tuesday
MAYEM: The election to elect a new sarpanch and deputy sarpanch to Pissurlem Panchayat will be held in the panchayat hall on Tuesday morning. The posts had fallen vacant after sarpanch Kushta Gaonkar and deputy sarpanch Parvati Mainkar were voted out in a no-confidence motion passed by Panchas Sushant Paste, Jairam Gaonkar, Divya Mhapsekar and Anant Naik on June 2.
Sane Guruji Punyatithi on June 11
MAYEM: The 64th Punyatithi of Sane Guruji, jointly organised by Goa Pradesh Saneguruji Kathamala and Bicholim Kathamala Centre, will be held on June 11 in schools in Bicholim, Mayem, Mulgao, Pilgao, Vargao, Poira and surrounding areas. On the occasion, programmes like story telling based on Sane Guruji’s life, prayers and invocation songs will be sung.

PANJIM: The celebration of the feast of St Anthony will be held on June 13, at 9.30 am at St Anthony’s Chapel, St Anthony waddo, Goa Velha. The Eucharistic celebration will be celebrated by the Parish Priest of St Andrew’s Church, Goa Velha.
Blood donation camp held at Verna
PANJIM: Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with Marine Electricals Pvt Ltd., Verna, conducted a blood donation camp at the factory premises, managed by the Goa Medical College Blood Bank unit led by Dr Clare D’Mello and her team. The camp was coordinated by Abhijit Ghali and Navin M Rao. Around 61 donors donated blood. Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
Home nursing course
PANJIM: P Dasya Home Nursing Institute, Alto-Porvorim is conducting a one-year course of Home Nursing to secure government’s diploma. PANJIM: Bougainvilla-Hermitage Retirement Village, Nachinola, was awarded the runner’s-up title at the NDTV ‘Mission Energy Challenge-2014’ award function on June 5, at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. Directors, Michael & Tomoko Lobo stated that their motive was to conserve our earth’s natural resources and the Mission Energy Challenge was an impetus to the residents and staff to dedicate themselves to this noble cause.
