PANJIM: Lendl Bellentyne (TBC) will battle it against Ashish Bhandari (PBC) for title in the finals of 8th All Goa Pandharinath Shirodkar Memorial Boxing Championship, at Indoor Stadium, Campal-Panjim.
In the 64 kg category Senior Men semi-finals, Lendl knocked out Musa Sufyan (RCC Pedem) 3-2 while Ashish, the most experienced boxer of the club and the crowd’s favourite showed he still has the stamina and skills as he defeated Nelson Paes (TBC) 5-0.
In the Sub-Junior boys semi-finals, the biggest upset of the day was when Rahul Rathod (RCC Pedem) got the better of Sandeep Sahu (PBC), National School Game Medallist, 3-2.
Zegito Fernandes (St Joseph) managed to scrape past Roshan Naik (People’s) in close contested fight 3-2.
Other results: Vikas Patel (MBBC) beat Rohan Salgaonkar (St Joseph) 5-0, Santosh Thapa (Vasco) defeated Govind Bick (Vasco) 4-1, Rahul Pujari (St Joseph) punched out Sanket Nagvekar (RBC) 5-0, Nilesh Chawan (MBBC) beat Prabhab Naik (Margao) 3-2, Jeevan Bededolkar (St Joseph) defeated Arun Sankawaran (People’s) 3-2, Gandahar Naik (People’s) outsmarted Sagar Madkaikar (St Joseph) 4-1 and Pranil Shinde (RBC) beat Sagar Khatri (MBBC) 5-0.
In the Sub-Junior girls semi-finals, Nishila Parsekar (RCC Pedem) was no match to Rinky Dabolkar (SAI Pedem), who through straight punches knocked out and referee stopping the contest in the first round.
A total of 134 boxers are participating in the championship.
