AMBELIM: Calangute Association blanked SCC Cavelossim 2-0 in a Goa Pro League encounter, at Ambelim ground, on Monday.
Joshly Dias and Pedro Gonsalves scored a goal each for the winners.
Both teams started on equal footing. In the 3rd minute, Cavelossim’s Joshua Vaz on receiving the ball from Suraj Hadkonkar entered the rival box but Calangute’s lanky defender Bonny Niasso thwarted the danger with a well timed sliding tackle in the box.
In the 6th minute, Calangute Association had their first shot on target when Rohan Kamble’s grounder would have found the back of the net if not for block by rival defender Cresson Antao at the goal.
Cavelossim had the best chance to take the lead in the 44th minute but Aaren D’Silva shot wide with only the keeper at this mercy
Calangute Association midfielder Pedro Gonsalves and Runall Shirodkar dictated the play while SCC Cavelossim Joshuah Vaz and Suraj Hadkonkar played tough for their team.
Crossing over, Calangute dominated the play as they restricted their opponents in their own half. The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute through Joshly Dias off Runall’s assist.
Down by the goal, Cavelossim manager introduced Daulat Dessai into the game and the striker made an immediate impact as he dictated the play for his team.
However, Daulat missed two open sitters in as many minutes. First he saw his shot go over the bar in the 75th minute with only the keeper to beat, and in the 77th minute the lad shot straight at the keeper from the box, wherein he could have done better in both the occasion.
Cavelossim were reduced to 10 men when their keeper Agnelo Gomes was flashed a straight red card by referee Mario Pereira for a dangerous tackle on the rival player and awarded a penalty kick for Calangute.
Pedro Gonsalves stepped over and cooly converted the spot kick.
