Inaugurate one bridge before closing another road down; Vijai

PANJIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Thursday suggested the government should first inaugurate the third bridge over River Mandovi before going ahead with closure of the road from Cortalim to Verna and diverting the traffic owing to the ongoing construction work of the Zuari bridge.
Sardesai was speaking to reporters after attending the State cabinet meeting, wherein he raised the issue with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.
“I have told Chief Minister that third Mandovi bridge should be inaugurated and only after that the road diversion of Zuari bridge should be taken up. Let us first start one bridge at least,” Minister said adding that the people of South Goa should not be made to suffer.
“The people should first feel the benefit of construction of Mandovi bridge. Our view is that the festive season is on and people should not be put to inconvenience,” Sardesai said.
He said that Chief Minister was positive about the suggestion.
The third Mandovi bridge is expected to be inaugurated on January 12. Parrikar had recently inspected construction works of both the bridge.
Earlier this month, Dhavalikar had said the Zuari bridge contractor has proposed the closure of the existing road and traffic diversion but the plan has not been approved by the government as yet.
