In Goa however, 58.63 percent of rural households are salaried accounting for the fourth highest in the country following Daman and Diu, Delhi and Chandigarh.
Of the households with salaried employment, 13.05 percent are employed in the government sector, 1.75 percent in the public and 9.23 percent in the private sector.
It also revealed that most of the salaried rural population was earning less than Rs 5,000 a month.
Among 2,20,731 households from rural areas, 1,29,404 households had salaried jobs and 76.89 percent of these salaried households were earning incomes less than Rs 5,000, while 22.14 percent were earning between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 and 17.50 percent were earning Rs 10,000 or more.
The census also reported that 14.34 percent of the rural population in the State was employed in manual casual labor, 8.45 percent in part time or full time domestic service, 5.09 percent in cultivation, 2.02 percent in non-agricultural own account enterprises, 0.16 percent in foraging and rag picking, 0.15 percent in begging or charity or alms collection and 69.73 percent had other sources of income.
Areas of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar have registered the lowest between 4.56 percent and 6 percent.
