Three labourers have been detained in connection with the theft of cable wires at Madhlamaj-Mandrem on Wednesday night.
Pernem police have provided the names of the accused as Bhirappa Allapa Jaglal (Hubli), Shivanand Yannapa Kungur (Dharwad) and Huddapa Chandra Basappa (Karnataka). Police informed that when the three burglars were in the process of stealing cable wires at Madhlamaj, the locals apprehended them and handed them over to the police. The accused were residing in a rented house and were involved in the construction work. Police recovered cable wires from the accused and is investigating the case.
Fields damaged:The lone tusker who had been ransacking the cultivated areas in Pernem taluka caused extensive damage to paddy fields in Khutwal-Dhargal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Paddy fields belonging to Deelip Harijan, Prabhakar Naik, Gurudas Sawant, Ankush Naik, Nagesh Pandit, Mohan Naik, Vijay Chari and Namdev Shankar Naik were damaged by the elephant.
