DULER: Dempo Sports Club scored a huge 7-3 win over Vasco Sports Club in the GFA’s Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, on Friday.
With the win Dempo SC stand with 25 points from 12 matches while Vasco SC stay down with 10 points from 13 matches.
The highly entertaining encounter saw Dempo SC go into the breather with a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the early 5th minute of play when Felix Odili Chidi collected the ball from Nickson Castanha and fired the ball home, 1-0.
Vasco SC managed to restore parity in the 13th minute of play when Franck Alves Kouassi got hold of a loose ball at the centre line and charged into the rival danger zone and after getting the better of the defenders unleashed a powerful right footer from the edge of the box which had no answer from the rival keeper.
Four minutes later the Portside men took the lead when Jaison Vaz curled his corner towards Rovan Pereira who gave the finishing touches, 2-1.
Finding themselves down by a goal the Golden Eagles stepped up the pressure initiating several threatening moves.
Anthony D’Souza was a constant threat to the Vasco outfit initiating a series of raids from the left flank.
In the 25th minute Anthony ran down the left flank and set up Beevan D’Mello right inside the 6-yard box, but before he could aim goal-wards the Vasco keeper cleared the ball to safety.
A minute later Anthony once again raided the rivals however this time Kapil Hoble’s header missed the target narrowly.
Vasco keeper Shilton came to his sides rescue again in the 30th minute of play when he blocked Beevan from scoring from a one on one position.
However there was little that the keeper could do in the 34th minute when Anthony sent the ball towards unmarked Germanpreet Singh who drilled in a low grounder from the edge of the penalty area to restore parity for Dempo, 2-2.
A couple of minutes later Dempo managed to once again take the lead when Felix Odili Chidi sent a defence splitting pass to Beevan D’Mello who coolly slotted hold the ball from close range, 3-2.
Dempo almost netted in their fourth goal in the 39th minute however Kapil Hoble saw his shot bang the Vasco woodwork.
Crossing over, both the sides were all over their rival territory, keeping the keepers on their toes.
In the 56th minute Dempo SC further increased their lead when Germanpreet set up Felix Chidi who made no mistake to place the ball into the back of the nets, 4-2.
Minutes later Vasco came teasingly close to reducing the margin but Franck Alves Kouassi’s shot from inside the danger zone kissed the Dempo upright.
Substitute Gabriel Fernandes took Dempo up by 5-2 in the 68th minute of play when he gave finishing touches to Joaquim Abranches cross.
In the 74th minute Mario Mascarenhas sent a corner from the right flank to Beevan D’Mello who scored through a firm header to make it 6-2.
Franck set up Jaison Vaz in the 87th minute of play, who lobbed the ball over the advancing Dempo keeper 3-6.
On the brink of full time Felix completed his hat-trick when he scored through a placement off Beevan’s pass making it 7-3.
