vasco: Stating that there is no need to panic regarding the return of 1,400-odd seafarers to Goa at the MPT, Mormugao MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik said the State government and the administration have taking the right steps in tackling the COVID crisis.

“All the guidelines and procedures of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will be followed strictly in bringing them back. These seafarers are our own people and in these tough times it is our duty to support them and fight pandemic collectively,” said Naik.
He pointed out that there have been demands from many families of the seafarers to bring them back to their homeland.
“On Thursday, over 1000 seafarers will come to Goa after their cruise ship will dock at the MPT berth. We all should welcome them. We should understand that these seafarers had gone out for work and professional commitments. After being recently stranded due to the COVID pandemic, it is our duty to bring them back and support them,” Naik added.
He reiterated that all the rules will be followed so that there is absolutely no reason for people to panic.
“All should contribute in their own way. If everyone starts fearing and running away from the issue, then the solution won’t come,” Naik added.
On this note, he spoke about the MPT Hospital at Headland Sada, being notified as a COVID care Centre by the State government recently.
He added that he had consulted the locals from his constituency and municipal councillors concerned about this decision.
“I feel that people are of an understanding nature and that they also understand that cases are being identified in Sada area also. There we cannot just turn our back on the affected people,” said Naik.
He further mentioned that so far there has been no COVID fatality case in Goa. “The percentage of the COVID death cases in India is also less but at the same time we should follow the safety norms strictly, “he added.
‘BJP volunteers will create awareness on Ayush initiatives’
Naik added that the BJP volunteers from his constituency will create awareness about the Ministry of Ayush’s initiatives such as the medication recommended for boosting immunity amongst the people to resist coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Relief Fund Cheques were distributed by Naik to the beneficiaries.
