MARGAO: On the day of Goa’s Liberation, Village Panchayat Raia has pledged to execute the plans in order to keep the village clean, wherein youth will be the guiding force to create awareness on the garbage issue.

On Monday, the panchayat body along with students of Gauncar Higher Secondary School held a cleanliness drive in the village.
Explaining about the action plans, acting Sarpanch Godfrey Osward D’Souza told Herald that the panchayat will now collect garbage from the village thrice a month instead of once.
“Panchayats have also decided to engage workers to collect the garbage dumped along the roadside and other places. We want to keep our village clean. Panchayat will be coordinating with the likeminded youth from the village in order to guide the villagers pertaining to the garbage management,” he informed.
He said this youth force will be ambassadors of the panchayat in making Raia village one of the cleanest villages of Goa.
It is pertinent to note that this panchayat is among the few others facing a tough time in handling the garbage menace, more especially with regard to the garbage dumped on the roadsides. Several black spots have resulted in nuisance in the village.
Meanwhile, a special meeting has been called to elect the new Sarpanch on December 23, as the post is vacant since the Judas Quadros was dislodged from the post by 7-4 votes.
