Gram sabha members of Orlim Panchayat on Sunday registered their protest after the chairperson began the meeting with just 20 persons.
Members questioned the chairperson how the meeting could be conducted with just about 20 persons and later signed the register book with their protest.
Incidentally, some members said they were denied the register by the chairperson to record the time of exit when they wanted to leave the Gram Sabha saying they were free to leave and need not mention the time.
The minutes of the previous Gram Sabha were read and there were objections on the same with regards the revision of house tax.
Gram Sabha members lamented that it is pointless to raise issues for discussions at the gram sabha saying the Chair had in the past refused even discussions on a particular subject let alone pass any resolution.
They were sore over the attitude of the panchayat authorities such as the Director of Panchayats, deputy director and the BDO after the members had brought to their notice the poor functioning of the chairperson. Members lamented that the panchayat authorities failed to take action in the matter since the July gram sabha.
