– Are they going to EIA hearings tomorrow. If no why not?
– Do you know about the contents of Environmental Impact Assessment Report on MPT’s project?
– Is the project right for the region around MPT as well as Goa?
– Can we trust MPT’s commitment to the environment concerning this project considering its poor track record in pollution control and environmental protection?

+ Yes will attend.
+ I haven’t read the EIA report as I have not got a hard copy of the project.
+ This project is not viable as it is near to the populace of fishermen, and the people of Vasco. The fishermen will have to face the brunt even if there is cruise liner tourism. They will dredge the river bed for the entry of cruise liners and the fishermen will obviously lose the kind of fish they harvest today. There will be little that we can pass on to the future generations if there is dredging. They can shift the same further on the other side.
+ We can’t trust the MPT as they had given several assurances to the people of Mormugao to soften their stands. However, they have been doing something else on the back of people. The coal handling issue is an example where they committed for a lesser coal handling but in turn have increased to a great extent making people face pollution.

+ I have not read the contents enough to comment on the merits of the report.
+ It will be a disaster for Vasco. The whole city is already cramped for space and if this kind of commerce comes to be so near to the town there will be today chaos. The F.L Gomes road will be totally occupied and it will be a mess. As far as disaster preparedness is concerned the Vasco town cant have a POL jetty at all.
+ The MPT can’t be trusted anymore. Looking at their past record as they don’t care about Goans anymore now. They are only concerned about their revenue and least care about Goans. Health wise, morally they don’t care about Goans and now we Goans have to care for ourselves.

+ I feel the other two MLAs of Mormugao are directly affected and their say becomes very important.
+ I have only one take and that is the state Government before undertaking any project with or without the Central Government will always take care of Social as well as all the ecological issues and problems and then only take any decision in the projects.

+ I may not be able to attend as I have a prior commitment in Margao
+ Though I have not read through the report as yet however the EIA report is non reliable. The report of the MPT does not declare facts and hides important details like the water bodies in the areas. Except the Zuari there is no mention of beaches, vital water bodies and also no mention of the Sancoale bay, Velsao beach is found. This report is not a complete report and doesn’t give the ground reality of the areas. The report needs to be redone by some one more dependable and makes mention of all the details.
+ What happens if god forbid the Petroleum Oil and Lubricant cargo leaks into the waters? Won’t that lead to destruction of aquatic biodiversity? This is an area where fishing activity is the only profession and this will spell disaster for the oldest trade.
+ I wont go into the honesty of the MPT but I feel that it has to be redone to make all the facts of the project told to public in black and white. Let it be decided on that basis whether it is worth or not. How can fishing activity and POL cargo go side by side?
