Fugitive minor girl rape accused held in UP

MARGAO: Rahim Khan, a fugitive allegedly accused of raping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage was arrested from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh along with the victim’s mother, who forced the girl to have an abortion.

A team of Margao Police arrested both of them on Thursday and will be brought to Goa on July 23.

According to information received from Margao Police, the incident took place between 2018 and June 18, 2021 within the limits of Margao Police Station. The suspect Rahim and the victim’s mother had fled Goa for fear of arrest. Margao Police had been searching for them since last month.

A team of Margao Police left for Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, expressing suspicion that both the suspect and the victim’s mother may have fled to the village. After searching, both the fugitives were caught by the police.

A complaint has been lodged alleging that Rahim had earlier raped the victim’s 14-year-old sister by marrying her. The suspect had told the victim that he would marry her later when he married her younger sister. But, later the victim did not pick up the phone and the victim rattled in anger.

The suspect tried to kill himself by taking Ratol after learning that she was undergoing treatment at hospital. However, when the suspect was informed that a complaint had been lodged against him, he fled the village with the victim’s mother as soon as he was discharged.
