A French politician has advocated for the return of the Statue of Liberty, contending that the United States no longer embodies the principles it was intended to represent. Raphaël Glucksmann, a member of the European Parliament affiliated with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, criticized the United States for its management of international matters, particularly its stance on Ukraine.
Addressing his supporters, Glucksmann stated, “Return the Statue of Liberty to us. We must tell the Americans who have chosen to align with tyrants, and those who dismissed researchers advocating for scientific freedom: ‘Return the Statue of Liberty to us.’ We presented it to you as a gift.”

The audience reacted with applause and cheers as he elaborated, “The second message we wish to convey to the American people is this: ‘If you choose to dismiss your most talented researchers, if you decide to let go of those individuals who, through their freedom, innovative spirit, and inquisitive nature, have contributed to making your nation the foremost power in the world, then we will gladly welcome them.'”
The Statue of Liberty, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, was presented as a gift from France in 1886 to celebrate the lasting friendship between the two countries. This monumental statue, which reaches a height of 305 feet and weighs approximately 450,000 pounds, portrays a woman holding a torch and a tablet engraved with the date of the United States Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
