Sarpanchas, ZP members to unite for rights

PANJIM: Sarpanchas and Zilla Parishad members Wednesday decided to unite and ally with a central body to fight for their rights including the devolution of the powers given under 73rd and 74th amendments.

PANJIM: Sarpanchas and Zilla Parishad members Wednesday decided to unite and ally with a central body to fight for their rights including the devolution of the powers given under 73rd and 74th amendments. 
At the joint meeting, some sarpanchas also brought up the subject of the gram sabhas allegedly being hijacked by the certain section of the gram sabhas and wanted rules framed to handle such situations. 
Long time Calangute sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira is to lead this joint body.
Some time ago sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas from Salcete had joined together under a common platform to try and get grievances redressed and to jointly take up their common issues with the government authorities at the Davorlim Panchayat hall. 
Most of the elected representatives underlining the need to come under one banner to jointly fight their problems.
Most of the them  discussed ways and means how to go about achieving their objectives and all of them decided to meet periodically.
