Finally, Margao roads being restored

A stop work order had been given to stop all digging of roads immediately; JICA has asked for a fortnight to repair the dug roads

MARGAO: Based on the representations made by concerned residents from Margao, Aquem and Navelim over the shoddy conditions of roads in and around Margao, the deputy collector called for a meeting with various government departments following which road repairs in Margao were taken up on a war footing.
It maybe recalled that the collector had convened a disaster management and pre monsoon review meeting in the middle of May but several government departments did not turn up. Thereafter there was a meeting held at the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) where Panchwadkar had assured he would take up the matter of incomplete road works.
On Friday, officials from the electricity  department, water supply, PWD, JICA, BSNL, MMC were present along with activist Jose Maria Miranda, Cedrica Da Costa, Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum members and BJP leader Sharmad Raiturkar.
Miranda and da Costa appealed that the roads around the schools be repaired before schools reopen. Panchwadkar stated that the collector had already issued a stop work order for all the digging work and other works. He further blamed the lack of coordination between government departments.
“Electricity, Water supply has committed to restore all the roads to normal; however JICA and PWD have failed to set any timeframe. JICA is asking for 15 more days and PWD has promised to give compliance in two days” he said.
Raiturkar felt all this work should have been completed much earlier.
