PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on Thursday unanimously decided to continue the alliance with the Goa’s oldest regional party Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) for the 2017 State Legislative Assembly elections.
At their first meeting with Goa desk in-charge, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, all the BJP MLAs, including Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, ministers, State Party President Vinay Tendulkar and core committee members resolved in favour of the alliance.
“Everyone was unanimous in this view. It was expressed that we should continue with the alliance with MGP for the upcoming election. For the last five years we have been in alliance with them and it should be continued,” Parsekar said after the meeting.
He said that as announced earlier, the formal talks with MGP on the alliance would begin after October 4 but Gadkari would hold a crucial seat sharing meeting during this visit.
Parsekar also said that Gadkari is very close to Goa and that he has sanctioned various development projects to the State amounting to Rs 20,000 crore, and this support from the Union Minister has increased the confidence of the MLAs.
Parsekar said that along with the sanction for the 8-km approach road to the proposed Mopa airport, Gadkari has verbally agreed to sanction the two-lane approach road to the proposed electronic city in Tuem.
