SANGUEM: A footbridge cum storm water drain constructed thirty five years ago across the canal at Sadebag ward of Uguem village is on the verge of collapse.
The canal has not been maintained properly and can collapse if not repaired at the earliest.
It is pertinent to note here that some months ago, another similar canal located across the main Canal near Paikdev Temple had given way along with a truck laden with laterite stones.
Luckily no one suffered any injuries as there was no water in the canal.
However, with the onset on the monsoons, tragedy could be round the corner if the authorities do not rectify the problem at the earliest.
The canal which has developed a curve towards one end is widely used by the villagers residing at Matemol which is largely inhabited by the Dhangar community to proceed to their residences.
The canal lacks support from underneath and iron rods used in the construction of the canal are seen protruding from many angles.
Villagers informed that though the canal is meant only for the use of small vehicles and two wheelers, the condition of the canal is deteriorated on account of its use by heavy vehicles involved in transportation of laterite stones.
