VASCO: The final rites of Usha Naik and her daughter-in-law, Neha, the two women murdered in their flat at Vasco in the wee hours of Friday, were performed on Monday afternoon.
The two brothers, Siddharth Naik, husband of Neha, and Pravin Naik, husband of Pratima, who are employed on different ships, arrived in the State to conduct the final rites.
Relatives, friends and neighbours of the Naik family visited the residence at Shree Kamat Palace Housing Co-operative Society Ltd. at Mangor-Vasco to pay their last respect to the murdered women.
While Siddharth and Pravin were seen by the side of their loved ones, Pratima was seen sitting away on a sofa and was being consoled by a relative.
Neha’s father initially objected to media persons clicking photos of Siddharth, Pravin and Pratima Naik, but Siddharth was heard requesting his father-in-law not to stop the media from doing their duty.
“Please do not stop the media,” Siddharth gently told his father-in-law. “Let them do their work. The tragedy that has struck us should not happen to others.”
Later, both Siddharth and Pravin performed the last rites on the bodies of Usha and Neha at the Vasco crematorium.
