The writing has been on the wall for around 10 years now, and I knew it would happen eventually! From the time of the Godhra riots, this evil spirit of insatiable lust for power, dominance and total control has been rearing its head; and it has found a willing host in the BJP!
I have clocked its infamous rise to power in various states of India, and now they have gone one step worse; the BJP government in Maharashtra is banning the selling of meat for 4 days during some Jain ‘fast’. This is not only interfering the basic right of citizens enshrined in the Constitution of India, but is also interfering with the livelihood of traders and businesses! Soon, I believe, the dirty tricks department of the BJP will try something similar in Goa! Thank God I do not live in Maharashtra!
The question everyone should ask is this: if the BJP is trying to force people to abstain from meat during these 4 days, why don’t they appease ALL other minorities such as Muslims and Christians by ‘forcing’ other Hindus to abstain from meat during the 40 day fasting period of Lent, and also during Ramzan, and to refrain from alcohol and sex during such periods! This is not about meat only, but about flexing their political muscles because they are in power, and because they have a leader who is being perceived as their saviour due to what impression he may have created while in power elsewhere!
It is also no mere coincidence that just a few weeks ago, the census of the Indian population was released showing Hindus as being around 78%, but that their annual increase was lower than that of the Muslims and Christians. I’m certain that that would have set off numerous alarm bells in that particular community.
I believe that the major drawback with this segment is that, like the Jews of old, they are looking for a fighting ‘saviour’ to release them from some self-perceived low esteem, even though they realise that they are not in the minority. But, like with other ‘kingdoms’ founded on terror and man’s might, I must ask, “Where are they now?”
A kingdom or government, like the one founded on love, peace and servanthood by Jesus Christ has weathered every storm over the past 19 centuries, and will still be here well after all other kingdoms have been truly obliterated!
I am NOT against Hindus, Jains or Muslims, in fact, I have numerous friends in all these communities. But we Indians don’t rest until we set up some demi-god to head us – in this case, either the ‘perceived’ head of the BJP or the ‘perceived ‘ head of the RSS. It sickens me to watch, especially in the world’s largest democracy, how even Ministers at the Centre fawn and cringe before these perceived heads; and it is not only limited to these organisations, other political parties do it as well! We are natural sycophants (with the emphasis on ‘sick’), and we make no reservations about expressing this openly and to the fullest! God help Goa if it also goes that way.”
