2-wheeler sales spike

Huge discounts on scooters and bikes drive sales up following SC ruling on BS 3 vehicles

PANJIM: The supreme court ruled and John Fernandes picked up his first bike. For the junior college student in Panjim, the huge discounts offered by dealers of various brands were the reason for the purchase. The SC had passed an order against auto OEM’s manufacture and sale of BS3 from April1, 2017. While dealers in Mumbai and the rest of the country offered huge discounts, in Goa discounts were offered that certainly tickled the fancy of the populace.
The sale of Honda’s was quick and according to dealers of that brand, they had sold out. Parind  Nachinolkar, Owner,  Priority Group   said he had zero stock. Parind said “We offered Rs. 10,000 discount on scooters and Rs. 20,000 on motorbikes. We sold at a loss. We received some help from the company. It was very unfair. We were not given any time to manage but that’s the final decision”.
Fardeen Veljeee of Veljee Motors smiled when asked about his situation. He said “We stock Vespa, Suzuki and Aprilia and had managed our stocks very well. I have 4 to 5 bikes left which I intend to buy and then sell when the customer comes along”. His principals, he revealed had helped him shoulder the burden of the discounts which were in the Rs. 7-8000 range.
