A fine recipe for life

One of six brothers he leads a pretty hectic life handling existing businesses and exploring new business avenues. Anil Pereira is making a definite mark on the business landscape of the State. He however finds the time to balance his love for cooking and running the restaurant as well as the super market. Ajit John finds out more

Life for Anil Pereira begins at 5.30 am. He then takes his dog for a short walk and then returns home to commence his date with his electrical cross trainer. A habit of his for over a decade he spends half an hour on the contraption as he works out to keep his body fit. He follows this schedule from Monday to Friday. Anil reads the news papers of the day to understand the political and economic news. For someone who runs a supermarket, Anil likes to keep his ears close to the ground.  A resident of Donna Paula he goes down to the kirana store to buy milk and bread for his kid. He then wakes his five year old son and ensures he is in school at 8 am. As someone who runs Upper House a popular restaurant in Panjim, he cooks at home and believes he is a better cook than his wife. He say’s “All the masala’s at Upper House have been prepared by me. I cook every Goan dish. My passion is cooking without a doubt.” Asked which restaurant he liked in Goa and he said it was his own restaurant and another one in Mumbai called Saibaa in Bandra. During his travels abroad he prefers to eat in Indian restaurants. Like any Goan he has music in his veins. He loves pop and country with Bee Gees a favourite. His favourite song from that band remains I started a joke, one of the bands earliest number. The Bellamy Brothers is another favourite. 
He has a considerable collection of music and a jvr system that is the latest. He likes to keep himself posted on the new developments in the political and economic front. He has a kindle but he likes to feel the hard copy while reading. He has subscribed to the Time magazine till 2020 since e likes it and wants to keep abreast on the latest developments. Asked if he could have accessed the same online he smiled and said he was old fashioned and wanted to hold the paper while reading the copy.  
He takes a holiday once a year which coincides with the holidays of his school going child. He visited Dubai last year in October. This year he intends to go to Europe. He has shortlisted six countries and a decision will be taken shortly. 
Asked what he hoped to see in the next five years he smiled and said “We are a family group and my brothers are business partners. We have Delfino and we hope to spread it around the State. Eventually we would like to take it to parts of the country. I am also from Dewar and I am building a holiday home there. I hopefully hope to complete it and relax at home when time permits”. 
Time will tell if his dreams come true.
