Hectic yet relaxed

Running a hotel in the State that attracts tens of thousands of tourist presents challenges that are unique and for a new outlet, even more so. Luis Filipe Menezes, MD, La Maison Fontainhas works long hours as he tries to get it up and running. He spoke to Ajit John about the varying rhythms in his life

Now three years into his life as the MD of the hotel created at the family home his grand-father purchased in 1945, Luis Felipe Menezes is working at setting up the restaurant in the hotel, which means very long hours.
From his home in Altinho to Fontainhas, the distance may not be much but they are two different worlds. One a residence of the political and financial elite and the other a reminder of the colonial past, Luis is conscious of the task ahead. It takes all his time.
He smiled when asked about the genre of music he enjoyed. He said “I have no favorites; it all depends on my mood.” Luis Filipe confessed to not being a reader of books or a fan of movies. He laughed and said “At night I watch the news, flip the channel and I fall asleep. Same with movies, I watch possibly ten or fifteen minutes and then fall asleep. Like many Goans I like to watch football and cricket but then I never watch a full match.”
With regards food, he likes his steak, sausage pulao and butter chicken. Martins in the south remains a favorite restaurant in Goa and Yaocho in Mumbai lists highly. His schedule at work has meant he has not been able to take holidays. He has however visited China, the gulf on business and expressed his interest in visiting Europe with friends.  Asked what his plans were in the next five years he expressed the hope that things would improve in Goa and hoped for the best.
