PANJIM: If you are an employee in public or private sector whether permanent or on contract, the days of quoting your Provident Fund (PF) number will soon be over. The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India while taking advantage of the growing technology, has launched an Universal Account Number (UAN) last year in July and recently it has taken up its activation at a breakneck speed. This UAN number will finally replace the PF account number. All over India about four crore employees will be benefitted by this while in Goa, about three lakh people of about 2500 establishments will get this facility.
It is good for employees whether permanent or on contract, as all will now be able to actually view their PF accounts anytime at their convenience and will not have to wait till the end of financial year when their employers used to give the details. Also, at the same time shifting of jobs will not be a major concern as UAN number will help them easily transfer their account with the new employer and without any delay.
“We request all the employers of all the registered establishments in Goa for uploading KYC details, which includes their bank account numbers, Adhaar Card details, PAN card number etc of all their employees immediately. They should also activate their UAN either through individual employees or through batches of employees,” the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Mr P. Veerabhadraswamy told Herald.
The Regional PF Commissioner added that in Goa EPFO Regional office has already collected data which will be used to generate UAN. Of the total 1,77,991 data about 30,000 are Adhaar Card details, 1,14,321 are bank accounts, 26,954 are PAN card details and rest 6716 falls into the category of others. To spread this message the EPFO is organising several workshops.
