In Business: Where innovation, entrepreneurship, growth and success meet

When the first issue of In Business was published on July 25 last year, Herald pushed the envelope yet again. A new fortnightly business supplement, at a time when Goa’s industry did not have too many champagne moments, when businesses rode on hope and not growth and when manufacturing, jobs and investments, had only positive silver lining- they couldn’t get worse. At a time like that the challenge was to make In Business a journal which rode on hope and fuelled by the silver lining that business and industry would only improve.
But as we began the journey, we realised that the reading of business and industry does not lie in balance sheets. It lies with people. And if there is one reason why innovation and excellence in business has thrived at a time when Goa’s economy was in the doldrums, it was because of one priceless asset Goa has. An asset not heralded or saluted as often and as much as it should, the asset of people. So while In Business is positioned as a journal of Goa’s industry and business it is a celebration of Goa’s spirit of creating and innovating. The more we looked for stories, the more we met heroes and heroines who push the engines of Goa’s growth, through their entrepreneurship. So from start-ups, which have received international acclaim to established industry captains, all have shared their growth stories with In Business.
In fact, there is one aspect of our coverage, we did not expect to focus on with such intensity, but were driven into it by the sheer passion of our start-up satraps. Young men and women, some of them in their twenties, inspired us with the manner in which they conceived, executed and funded their business plans to set up businesses fulfilling unique needs of a changing India.
Meanwhile, as we all know, Industry needs consumers to complete the chain. And consumers have their own needs, rights and access to information about goods services and developments. In Business has attempted to service this need through its stories and features.
Moving on, every successful economy has a standard after effect – wealth creation. And this leads to further enhancement through wealth management. In Business devotes a whole page to personal finance and wealth management with contributions from experts, which have been well received.
As readers may have figured, we have always followed people to follow their businesses, because even with the advancement of technology, it is people who make the difference. And it is in keeping with this spirit, we have even focused on the ‘after work’ habits of successful corporate and industry leaders, for readers to get a glimpse of the people they are and the factors that shape their minds and interests.
However, one year is too short a time to gauge a product. We have taken our first steps and will keep changing and innovating In Business. Much of what we do is shaped by your feedback and suggestions and that will never change. We thank each one of our readers for their support and salute each of those who have been featured on our pages for their role as innovators, motivators and wealth creators for a better and economically strong Goa.
