Letting their hair down

After dressing up Goans with unique hairstyles, Bina Punjani, art director of Bina Punjani - Salons Academy and Bridals and her husband Pralay Bakshi, business head unwind with music and kitchen skills. VIKANT SAHAY meets with them and figures out how the couple enjoy their me time in Goa, a place they love

Bina and Pralay both find time to play with their three-year-old kid – Neil.
A movie buff, they love to watch English movies but also have a penchant for finding out fresh artists from Bollywood who have emerged out of the theatre and may not have big followings. “We do not want to waste our time on mediocrity as we are short on time and hence quality is the buzz word for both of us,” added Bina.
Pralay loves contemporary English music but also loves ‘soul music’ in Hindi which pokes his emotions. “Some songs make you miss your girlfriend even if you do not have one,” said Pralay.
Bina describes herself as an outdoor person and not the ‘gym types’ but she does manage to do her occasional stretching exercises and laments that she has not been regular with her exercises. “I am basically an outdoor person so would love to walk on the beach or play with my dog,” said Bina.
Both of them believe that taking out free time is a question of mind space and the couple never had the mind space to focus on themselves as work has been taking up a lot of their personal time.
“Three years back we were engaged in lots of activities, travelled a lot, but over the last three years we both have been heavily engaged in business. However, now we are beginning to breakthrough on the other side where we will be having more time for us as we are more organised now,” added Pralay. With Neil now growing up they can move out and travel more and get back to their passion of travelling.
Both being foodies they do not hesitate to try out new places. Hangout at the beaches is also one their favourite past times. Married for twelve years, both of them tried their culinary skills and given the luxury of time they would love to spend it in the kitchen. Masterchef Australia happens to be one of their favourite TV programmes.
Goa, for both of them resembles very close to Europe and they love this place as the quality of life here has really hooked them on. However, they believe that Goa has transformed a lot and evolved in last five years and the Goans are now taking up to new ideas and services available in the State. “Social aspects and traditions in Goa are very strong and we have learnt a lot in our stay here in Goa. It is a very close knit society where everyone knows everybody,” said Pralay.
The couple loves to drive, but not for a continuous long stretch. Pralay happens to be a professional singer and is still undertaking half-hearted attempts to pull together a music band in Goa.
“It will not be like the run of the mill quality and I feel Goa is an ideal place to pursue my dream. Would love to get back singing and music,” said Pralay. As of now he is engaged in doing voiceovers while Bina would prefer to chill with her glass of wine after a toiling day.
