Living healthy

The pressures on a builder in Goa are tremendous given that the sector is in the dumps and there are well over a hundred flats lying unsold. Oswald de Melo of Classic Square spoke to AJIT JOHN about his path to happiness and his plan to stay healthy

Oswald has run the Mumbai marathon and running is the key to health. He runs 10 kms every alternate morning. The day he does not run, he reads. Yes you read it right. Oswald likes to mix it quite a bit. As he approaches his mid 40’s he is aware of the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle. He is up at 6 o clock every day and then his routine commences.
For someone who is very clear about living healthy, Oswald is very careful about what he eats. He likes Continental fare. As he puts its “The European fare is more to my taste”. He admits to not being into Indian food. Whenever he goes out to eat he enjoys eating at Baba Wood cafe in Panjim. With regards to restaurants outside Goa, he said it was not possible since he hardly ever visited a restaurant again in his travels.
He does not watch movies but if he ever does it is mostly films like Jesse Owens.  He was he said not an avid movie buff. However he loved his history and loved reading books like The Life of Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great. He reads only non-fiction. This helps him as he indulges in another great passion in his life, travel.  He visits Europe three times a year. Just last month he was in Slovenia and Montenegro, not very touristy but with history that goes back centuries. He travels with his family and he enjoys visiting the continent because it is very addictive. Oswald enjoys visiting East Europe with Prague a favourite having visited the city three times. The big cities like Paris or Rome don’t excite him or as he puts it “take away the Eiffel Tower, there is nothing much else in Paris”. It takes a very confident man to say that. His last visit within India was to Kerala, ten years ago.
Asked what his plan was in the next five years, he smiled and said, staying healthy and living a good life. Amen to that.
