This congress aims to define and put into perspective contemporary urban reality – multiple and diverse – and which now hosts more than half the Global Population. As such, the City emerges as the final destination of humanity, and on it are placed our bets for a future that is more sustainable and which offers a better quality of life for a far greater number of people. In this sense, the problems associated with housing become the focus of a city that we wish for all. In the context of both, it is impossible to overstate the role that Architects must play.
Speakers from Portuguese speaking countries like Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Macau , Portugal, Cabo Verde and hosts Goa, India. The topic for the first session is the ‘The challenge of the Cities’, is to be discussed in context of its management , strategies, planning, heritage, infr, public spaces, participation, sustainability, energy, water etc.
The second session shall take up the ‘The challenge of housing’ and in this will be discussed public programs, inclusion, cultural context, heritage, typologies, building systems, sustainability, etc. Taking advantage of the event , IIA Goa Chapter has also organized an exhibition at Cidade Goa on April 18, wherein works of Goan architects are being planned to be displayed along with some works of CIALP Members countries. Architects in Goa, have over the years, contributed significantly, to the growth of post liberation Goan Architecture, in their own individual style and also keeping in mind the cultural ethos of Goa. The Indian Institute of Architects, Goa Chapter, has also been playing a key role in contributing to the development process of the State.
The Indian Institute of Architects (Goa chapter), has been closely collaborating with the Goa University and the Goa Collage of Architecture to enhance the existing academic syllabi. One such collaboration has been signed between the University of Padua and the Goa University to facilitate exchange of knowledge and information through student and faculty participation & exchange programmes.
