Moving along at his own pace

The life of a senior executive is like that of a music conductor. Sanjay Patti finds his inner balance in various activities. Ajit John delved deep into his psyche to try and understand what made him tick

Sanjay has moved through the ranks quite briskly.  A graduate in science from St Xavier’s College Mapusa, Goa, he made a lateral move into hotel school at IHM Goa.  This provides us also with the first hint of how he relaxes.
Sanjay loves trying out new technology and Gizmos. He loves almost anything to do with technology. From laptops, phones, watches and he uses IOS. like every senior executive he reads a lot about technology used in hotels to keep himself abreast of latest developments. One could perhaps say big boy’s different toys.  Having specialized in Food and Beverage, it remains a passion.
He used to cook till five years ago but now with the pressure of work it is  just not possible.  Nothing like the flavor of an interesting curry wafting through the room to dispel the pressures of a very demanding bottom-line.  Food is his passion and Goan cuisine, his great love. Martin’s corner and Venite remain a favorite in Goa while Hakkassan is a popular haunt whilst in Dubai.
Like many senior executives he travels a lot and samples cusines all over the place. His work has taken him to places as diverse as Dubai, Honk Kong and Texas to name a few. For a man who has worked with some of the more prestigious brands in the hospitality industry in the country like the Taj Holiday village, Sanjay certainly does enjoy moving around. Huahin in Thailand remains a favorite spot. A holiday with the family has not happened for over a year. the last holiday was in Dubai.  His assignment with Hyatt, has taken him from Goa to Kolkatta and Gurgaon and now back to Goa.
He admits to not being an avid reader but enjoys watching Denzel Washington movies like Titans and Book of Eli. Denzel, he belives is a very good actor and his movies make alot of sense. his movies he says are not just about entertainment but about making a point too. they are also built on the backbone of technology. However sadly he has not watched any movie, busy as he was with the pressures of setting up the hotel.
He likes his country music and soft rock.   Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams remain favorites but of late the number Photograph by ED has caught his fancy and he belives it will remain his all time favorite.  He listens to music while he drives to work or meetings.
His hectic work schedule keeps him busy six days in a week and this has meant that Sanjay the one time sportman is no longer really very sport. he represented Goa in u-15 and u-18 in Badminton but when he entered college he stopped playing that sport completely. During his tenure in Kolkatta, the property had a squash court which was reguarly frequented by him. Now however, it is just work. He is at work at 8.30 in the morning and leaves at 11 in the night.
Asked what he intended to do in five years, his answer was rather forthright when he said that he intended to be opening more Hyatt hotels as GM. Amen to that
