VASCO: The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) is readying to welcome more cruise liners in the State as its dedicated ultra modern cruise terminal facility will be ready by December 2016, informed I Jeyakumar, chairman, MPT.
He said cruise traffic is also expected to grow in the current financial year bringing in high spending visitors to Goa.
“The ultra modern cruise terminal which is presently under construction at Mormugao Port will be ready by December 2016. Last fiscal 29 cruise vessels called at the port and in the current year we have been expecting rise in the number of cruise vessels, which would also be beneficial for the tourism State of Goa” he said.
He further added that “from cruise prospective, we have reduced the berth fare charges as well as other related charged. In our new proposal we are also proposing to reduce the berth hire and other charges so that more cruise vessels can come to Mormugao Port. Similarly with regards to modern cruise terminal will have all modern amenities and immigrations, customs etc would then be under one roof. Also earlier we were not having facility for group landing however MPT have been coordinating with immigration to provide such facilities for passengers and this will surely favor Goa tourism to large extend” he said.
