PANJIM: The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers – ISHRAE, hosted TechFest 2017 in Goa, today. It  was inaugurated by the Chief Mimister Manohar Parrikar.
He urged the industry to help reduce wastage of electricity by trying to add a sensor in air conditioners thus ensuring it would be off when people were not present in the room. It was also important to ensure skill development so that there were adequate number of personnel available to service air conditioners which were now a necessity.
Later speaking to the media , he said Goa was facing a problem of shortage in all sectors in response to a question about the quality of engineers at the PWD. He went on to say that it was also necessary to have good quality contractors which did not exist in Goa. Everyone of them he said was only interested in road surfacing which was easy and did not require technical expertise. Earlier he said there was some thinking taking place as to whether the big PWD building near Patto could be turned into a welcome centre for those visiting Panjim.
Meanwhile at the conference    Vishal Kapur, National President – ISHRAE said “ With the government of India focusing aggressively on this sector, marine industry and the impact that HCAV&R has on it cannot be diminished. Given that India is the 16th largest maritime country in the world with over 7000 kilometres of coastline, the government is currently focusing on cost effective strategies that will help revamp our ports, increase cargo traffic while reducing the wastage of food & other perishable items”. He said the influence and impact of HVAC&R on the marine industry was significant since air conditioning plays a pivotal role in both consumer and cargo vessels. The reliability of the marine industry on the refrigeration industry is pivotal since these vessels endure the most severe climatic conditions. Increasing government focus on the cold chain will further translate into a greater demand for more temperature controlled containers and it is here that the HVAC&R industry and their myriad offerings for the marine industry will be discussed at the TechFest Goa 2017. This year, TechFest 2017 will also witness ISHRAE achieving yet another milestone in constructing a program in association with Goa Shipyard Pvt. Ltd., thereby adding another feather to the cap.
