The four days of Carnival is almost here with the first day
being Febrary 18 till Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten
Season. As King Momo will declare the festival open there is a lot of work that
goes into making award winning floats.
Intruz De Majorda, a brainchild of United Boys of Majorda
(UBM) was brought to light in a hope of uniting the villages of Majorda, Utorda
and Calata. For years, these villages have given Goa so many artists,
footballers, musicians and other impactful individuals that it was time they
were celebrated and the culture of the villages was showcased. Hence, the UBM
family took up the initiative of reviving this through a float parade followed
by merry making that is a parcel of the Carnival festivities. Intruz De Majorda
will showcase a float parade put forth by the villagers depicting the culture
and roots of the village.

There will be an open and joker category too so that people
from across Goa can be a part of these festivities. Bruno Azaredo, the former
King Momo of 2018 and the King for this year’s two great float parades, Panjim
and Ribandar has consented to be the King Momo for Intruz De Majorda. He will
have Miss Queen India, Meurel Viegas, and Yasmin Renzo Faria from Brazil
accompanying him. The float parade will commence on Monday, February 20, at 3
pm sharp, starting from the Utorda-Majorda junction leading towards Majorda
Church Square and concluding at the St Rock Ground in Majorda. The UBM family
looks forward to reviving old traditions and preserving a better cultural
treasure for the future.
Joel Barbosa in association with St Anthony Boys, Agalli
will present a float on the theme, Purvozachi Goddsan at most of the major
parades. “For the last six years, we participates and won many prizes in the
traditional category. We prepare every minute detail for the floats, including
the masks and traditional costumes which are prepared by us as per the required
creativity, design and deco. All items are original and hand made,” says Joel
Barbosa.
