Short films are making waves world over as an effective
means of getting poignant ideas and messages across through creative media. And
while this trend has reached the shores of Goa, unfortunately, there is no
platform here where these films can be viewed except uploading them on Youtube.
To give a better viewing experience of films as short as 3 minutes to 30
minutes, Goa Talkies is organising the Goa Short Film Carnival 2015, a
three-day festival exclusively for short films. The festival, featuring 80
films, will be held from February 20 to 22, 2015 at Entertainment Society Goa,
Maquinez Palace, Panjim.
“This is the first edition of the festival and we are very
excited to present 80 films including 15 entries from Goa and three
international entries – two from Doha, Qatar and one from Dubai, UAE. The
remaining entries are from all over India,” says Amol Ajgaonkar, a short film
maker who worked with Tinky George for their short film, ‘Psychology’.

He further adds, “There was no particular theme for the
festival as we wanted to showcase different genres of films on a single
platform. There is a competition category and a special category on Goa – ‘Feel
Goa – Love Goa /Goa on Road’. We were happy with the response we received from
the other filmmakers from Goa and around the country. We started campaigning
through social media, especially Facebook, since the last four months.”
“When we released our first short film, ‘Gift’ and then
‘Psychology’, we didn’t know how to get it out to the audience. The
International Film Festival of India also stopped their short film section. We
understood the plight that other filmmakers were facing in Goa and decided to
organise the festival dedicated to promoting short film making in the state.
The jury for the festival consists of Sharmad Raiturkar, Swapnil Shetkar and
Milroy Goes,” says Tinky.
The initiative is supported by Damu Naik, Chairman of ESG,
who will be Guest of Honour for the inaugural ceremony while Francis D’Souza,
Deputy Chief Minister of Goa will be the Chief Guest. The inauguration will be
held on February 20, 2015 at 12.30pm with the opening film ‘The Guest’ by Bipin
Khedekar, followed by the premiere of the film ‘Peon – Ek Chaprasi’ by Milroy
Goes. Other Goan film makers whose films will be featured at the festival are
Allan John and Josephfern, Sachi Naik, Vinay Vishnu Gawas, Swapnil Shetkar and
Anant Dhond.
International films include, ‘Kindness’ and ‘Son, You are
not alone’ from Doha, Qatar and ‘Desert Safari’ from Dubai.
A special screening of children’s films is also being
organised on February 21, 2015 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and on February 22, 2015
from 10am to 10.45am with films ‘Little Hands’, ‘Shared Smiles’, ‘Pensou’,
‘Super Indian’ and ‘Flying Kites’.
‘Pensou’ is an animated film made by Milind Kuri.
