Some people collect
cars, other toys. Then there are those who would like to be apart from the
crowd. They like to collect soap bars, or Coco Cola cans, or back scratchers.
Oh yes, you better believe that. So when one learns that Christie Gomes has
collected models of over fifty-five kinds of Santa Claus doing interesting
things in twenty years, one should not be surprised or even shocked.
Christie Gomes is the
GM of the Automobile Corporation of Goa and has been interested in collecting
things that are innovative. He said “I like collecting something that is
different, something new. I have a collection of toys. I saw them as very
creative. The Santa’s are playing different musical instruments like an
accordion, violin, and guitar. In fact, I have an entire band. I also have
Santa climbing down a chimney, climbing a ladder. It is a very interesting
collection.”

These models are all
purchased in Mumbai over the years and are all made in China. They cost
anywhere between Rs 150 and 1000. Christie says he has models of Santa juggling
and even doing somersaults. These models he says make children laugh. He said,
“I don’t smoke or drink and this is my hobby”.
His daughter who is a
MSC in Bio-Tech loves the models and all the other toys but does not share his
passion. Christie said, “This year has been a very bad year with people
suffering and many people losing their loved ones. I displayed it around my
house to bring some joy, a smile to people’s lips”.
He intends to keep
collecting and increasing the number of Santa’s in the years ahead. One wishes
