Annual prize distribution ceremony held at MES College

 MES College of
Arts and Commerce,
Zuarinagar-Vasco,
held its annual prize distribution Ceremony at the M.S. Kamat Seminar Hall of
the College, recently to acknowledge and award the outstanding performance of
students across the various spheres of academic, co-curricular and
extra-curricular achievements.

In her welcome
address, Dr.RekhaGaonkar, Vice-Principal of MES College, welcomed the gathering
of parents, guests and students and said that aprize distribution ceremony is a
way to reward students and motivate achievers to do better and walk the extra
mile.Professor SanjeevShirodkar, Chairperson of the College Council, introduced
the Chief Guest for the day, Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar, Chairman of Mormugao Port
Trust (MPT), and floral tributes were presented to welcome both Dr. E. Ramesh
Kumar and M.S. Kamat,President of Murgaon Education Society. The ‘Voice of
MES’, the college newsletter that is published half-yearly, was also released
on this occasion.

Dr.R.B.Patil,
Principal of MES College, presented the annual report of activities for the
academic year 2018-19. He warmly welcomed everyone to the gathering, noting
that the academic year began well with the admission of a total of 1557
students. The Principal commended the outstanding examination results of the
students and the rankings achieved by the college, as well as the achievements
of students in NCC, co-curricular, extra-curricular and sporting events. He
also spoke of the distinguished achievements of teachers, particularly in
research at the national and international level. He further highlighted the various
activities of the different associations and cells in college.He also spoke
about the new initiatives undertaken this academic year such as new certificate
courses, training forcompetitive exams and the qualitative academic audit of
teachers. He concluded by thanking everyone especially the Management,
students, Goa University and the Government of Goa.

Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar,
MPT Chairman, in his address, underscored the need for hard work and
determination to get ahead in life. “Success is about vision, the ability to
rise, the imagination, a sensitivity to people, building inclusion and
connectedness to a larger world, personal tenacity, giving back more to life
than taking and creating extraordinary success which makes one stand apart from
others and the cornerstone for all this is hard work,” said Dr Kumar. He also
noted that apart from academics, students learn from extra-curricular
activities and the NSS and NCC that give knowledge, skill and more importantly
confidence to face the world.

The prize
distribution ceremony which was presided over by M.S.Kamat, President of
Murgaon Education Society, witnessed the awarding of endowment scholarships and
awards to a total of 85 outstanding ex-students and meritorious current
students from different streams and classes who had achieved ranks for each
semester of the academic year. Kamat spoke of the need for right knowledge,
values, skills and wisdom and the presence of mind to tackle the difficulties
of life in order to achieve wherever one wants to go in life.

PankajNaik,
College General Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.The annual prize
distribution ceremony ended with a rendition of the national anthem.
