Breaking the barriers

On the eve of World Sight Day, Caritas Goa, under their ‘Deaf-Blind Project’, organised a photography workshop for 22 visually and hearing impaired children yesterday.

In a bid to do something
different for the special children, the organisers invited Rajendra Naik, a
professional photographer from Mumbai who has previously worked with hearing
impaired children. A half-day photography workshop was conducted in Panjim
where the students were taught how to handle the camera. The sign language
interpreters ensured that the participants with hearing problems could
understand everything that was being taught. The workshop was followed with a
photowalk in Old Goa where the participants captured images with their cameras.
According to the organisers, these pictures will be put up at an exhibition cum
sale at Kala Academy on October 23-24, 2014.
