Cracking board exams: Why do girls do it better?

Is there any specific issue for the
following prototype? What is the psychology behind this trend? As far as
everyone knows boys and girls equally work hard for their examinations, so why
is there a drop of percentage among boys compared to girls almost every year?

Dr Meenacshi Martin’s actress, psychiatrist, and social activities has a
fair idea and explains why the problem exists in the society.

“When we go to think about the factor why
girls score more than boys, there many reasons to it. Firstly, we must
understand that girls are usually multitasking as well as fairly intelligent and
dedicated. It is naturally found among behavioral characteristics of many
women. Secondly, I feel that girls always need to prove themselves to society
Hence, maybe through encouragement or under pressure they end up working
harder,” she explains.

However we cannot say that boys don’t work
hard, they do, but boys are naturally more attracted to activities and sports.
Dr Meenacshi Martins says that during her school and college days half the day
was spent in school and half on the sports ground. Boys like activities and
these days where activities are less boys tend to divert their minds.

“There should be a holistic development in
a person and parents should not pay attention to the marks. I had a friend who
did not know who is Amitabh Bachchan but she came first in class, so it all
about experience and learning from the world than focusing on marks,” expresses
Martins.

You can’t dismiss boys. They are intelligent and analytical but
perhaps they lack consistent focus on getting marks. In the case of girls they
are naturally dedicated and patient and their concentration level is higher
compared to boys. Girls are also good in time management. It is just in the

Since results suggest that girls outshine boys I guess the only
reason behind this could be that girls work harder than boys. May be they are
more focused and career oriented. I hope boys uplift their performances and we
see more competitive spirit in the future. But of course, more power to all the
girls who have always performed exceptionally well. People don’t get what they
wish for, they get what they work for.

Most girls have the patience to sit down in one place and study
for hours on end which I think is a little more difficult for boys. Boys can
get distracted very easily and are more likely to waste their time on non
academic activities like virtual games and sports during the year.

It’s only their hard work, time and determination they put in to
achieve their goals and set up a career of their choice that make girls do

I personally feel that girls are more careers minded compared to
boys. It also depends on the parenting factor. Parents have begun to motivate
their children a lot, especially the girls. Maybe parents should put more of
restrictions and boundaries on boys rather than girls, because it is easy to
keep a girl under control

Girls always seem to be well focused, disciplined, and whatever
task is given they do it to perfection, whereas boys do it at the last moment.
There few boys who actually give in their best and study well scoring high
marks but those are the boys who are usually from very disciplined families
with strict rules or a boarding school that has a timetable for everything.

Actually it is quite simple, girls are understanding; they
empathize and sympathize. Boys’ like to show off and it’s not their fault it’s
perhaps due to peer pressure or maybe since it’s their adolescent age.
Everything depends on how their family conditions and interactions are at home.
