Most platforms that speak about EDM or Electronic Dance
Music are based beyond Goan borders. For a long time, this was the status quo
and it was one that was accepted by and large, until five engineering students
decided to change the way things worked. And thus, EDMofy, the brainchild of
Viresh Vazirani, Palash Karia, Dwane Almeida, Viraj Nayak and Ashley Fernandes
was born.
Taking the lead, Viresh says “Ours was purely an attempt at
lads from the local sphere doing something for the local sphere. We began to
realise that there was a growing trend in people looking to find more
information on EDM and in similar vein, we also realised that a lot of this
kind of information came through feeds that were not based in the state. We
believed that we were locally and thus optimally placed to provide the most
comprehensive coverage of the same and thus began our quest to generate and
promote local coverage.”

Adding to these views, Viraj explains the group’s USP and
the etymology of the name, saying “EDMofy, which stands for Electronic Dance
Music Online For You is a ‘destination’ of sorts for people who are looking for
the latest updates on Electronic Dance Music. We wanted to create a space where
EDM lovers from around the world could unite in an attempt to celebrate their
love for electronic music.”
The group has been around since December 16, 2013 and has
since expanded, with their having added 15 interns to their roster in other
cities across the country, which include the likes of Mumbai, Delhi and Pune.
Their need to increase numbers stemmed from their growing popularity as lads
who ‘know the scene’. “We now have an approximate of 20,000 views per month and
on January 13, 2015, we received reports from Mumbai that #edmofy was third
most trending there. We’re proud of how we’ve come,” says Dwane.
Now in discussions with Tomorrowland to handle their
coverage in India, the five young engineers have come a long way from where
they began and are only beginning what seems to be a very promising journey.
