It will be a sight to behold as Panjim will don the look of yesteryears, with vintage cars
and bikes parading the length of the city on Sunday. The vintage car and bike
rally will be flagged off at 10am from Inox Courtyard. It will return to the
Courtyard via Miramar circle and Divja Circle. With over 100 vehicles still in
top condition, the Goa Vintage Car and Bike Festival is sure to leave
automobiles lovers in awe.
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC)
presents the Goa Vintage Car and Bike Festival 2018 will be held on April 29,
2018 at the Inox Courtyard from 10am to 5pm. There will be a function to award
prizes and certificates in various categories to vintage vehicles including the
oldest, most appealing and the rarest automobile. This will be followed by
music and entertainment including a fashion show. The event has been curated by
Ashvek Vintage World and is supported by the VCCFI (Vintage and Classic Car
Federation of India).

This is the second edition of the Goa Vintage Bike and Car
Festival, which aims to display Goa’s rich history of automobiles. The festival
has already received an overwhelming response with vehicles coming in
especially for the festival from cities like Mumbai, Pune, Belgaum and
Kolhapur. Pradeep Naik of Ashvek Vintage World, says, “We have already received
entries of over 80 cars and we are expecting to cross 100 cars besides bikes.
The rally will be led by 30 Harley Davidson Motorcycles of the HOGs Chapter of
Goa. I will be displaying the 1886 Benz Motorwagen (replica). The Benz patent
Motorwagen is widely regarded as the world’s first automobile that was designed
to be propelled by an internal combustion engine. I will also display cars
manufactured by Mercedes like Station Wagon and Limo and Peugeot 301, a 1931
model at the exhibition. It is amazing to learn that there were cars that were
built in Coimbatore and then sent to London, where it was called ‘Made in
England’.”
The vintage and classic class will feature cars both Indian and
imported, manufactured up to 1987, while the Modern Classic cars will feature
cars imported of CKD manufactured from 1987- 1997. Motorcycles will feature vintage
and classic motorcycles and scooters, Indian and imported, manufactured up to
1987.
The
festival has certainly piqued the interest of vintage car and bike owners as
they can show their prized possessions to a larger audience. “The owners of
vintage vehicles know the value of these vehicles and those who realised later
have also put in all efforts to preserving the vehicles and maintaining them,”
says Pradeep. So, don’t be surprised if you are driving through Panjim on
Sunday morning and feel out of place, or maybe out of time, as you keep up with
vintage cars along the road.
