Its folk time again, folks!

The state of Goa will be full of folksy fanfare as dancers, singers, musicians and artists from different parts of the country enthrall the audience at Lokotsav 2015

If you thought the splendid performances by
artists at Lokotsav last year made it impossible to better it in the next edition,
you might be in for a pleasant surprise. For this year, the roster of artists
and performers looks impressive and suggests that akin to 2014, Lokotsav 2015
is here to blow your minds away with an explosion of colour, flavour and all
things folk. Post putting up a splendid show last year and setting the bar for
pure talent really high, the Directorate of Art and Culture will be presenting
a beautiful mix of folk forms and handicrafts from all over India at the 16th
National Level Folk Festival, Lokotsav 2015 at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy
in Panjim. The colourful event which is being done in collaboration with West
Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur in association with Kala Academy, Goa and Sports
Authority of Goa will be held from January 9 to 18, 2015 from 10 am to 10 pm.

The folk festival will be inaugurated on
January 9 at 6.30 pm at the hands of the Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha in the
presence of Minister for Art and Culture Dayanand Mandrekar, Mayor of the
Corporation of the City of Panaji Surendra Furtado, Secretary of Art and
Culture Faizi Hashmi and other dignitaries. Around 400 folk artists are eagerly
waiting to present various folk dances and music of their land to the Goan
audiences. Also, 600 craftsmen are going to display their handicraft items
during the festival period. The festival will also serve as an excellent venue
for exhibition of handicrafts – right from mojdi, bandhani, leather work, patch
work, bead work to furniture, glass work, khadi products, jute work, etc. Apart
from that, Goan handicrafts as well as miniature paintings, fabrics, handlooms,
wooden toys, jewellery, etc from all over India will be displayed for
