If there is anyone who goes by the adage ‘don’t rest on your laurels’, it’s one man – Vincy
Quadros, the National Bal Sahitya Award winner. Vincy, who has consistently
kept the Konkani flag flying with his writing of stories, novels, compilations
and poetry, in the Konkani language, has now come out with two new books.
Till date, Vincy has written 25 books,
eight collections of short stories, seven stories/novels for children and
youth, seven translations, one religious compilation, one novel and one
handbook for the readers of Roman Konknni. Besides, he has edited more than 15
books/booklets. Vincy is currently the Secretary of Dalgado Konknni Akademi and
is a regular contributor to various Konkani newspapers and magazines. He is
also the editor of the Konkani section of the magazine ‘Divine Voice’,
published in Kerala.
At a function organised at the Black Box,
Ravindra Bhavan Margao, by Snows Akademy, Raia, Chief Guest Tomazinho Cardozo
recenlty released the new books in the presence of Premanand A Lotlikar, Selza
Lopes, Narayan Prabhu Gaonkar and Swizel Quadros.
The two books – ‘Rong Birongi Fulam’ and
‘Rong Birongi Nokhetram’ – have been written for children and the youth
respectively.
‘Rong Birongi Nokhetram’, a book of 20 stories, aims at
motivating, guiding and helping the youth to face challenges in life. The
stories emphasise on the attitude of the youth and their approach to enhance
their knowledge through their parents and teachers.
‘Rong Birongi Fulam’ also contain 20 stories, for children.
Giving human form to non-living and living things, Vincy has described how even
animals live in hatred, anger and jealousy and how others exploit their
weaknesses. The writer, through his stories, has highlighted on values and the
style of living in this world.
“The writings in Romi Konknni are of high quality. Only if it is
written in Devanagari will its calibre be recognised and these writers will be
entitled to the national literary awards, says Tomazinho Cardozo, while
praising Vincy for publishing the books in both Romi and Devanagari scripts and
for his contribution in literature.
Vincy promises to support them with full strength, stating that
he receives this strength from Almighty God. He further says that Dalgado
Konknni Akademy (DKA) means more to him than the National Literary Award as DKA
is a source to support several Konknni writers in our society.
The release of the books comes on the heels of another huge
achievement by Vincy, whose poem, ‘Ek Mennvat’, was selected by All India Radio
for the National Symposium of Poets 2018 that was held recently in Indore. ‘Ek
Mennvat’ (A Candle) has been considered as one of the best literary pieces by
the Symposium and is being translated in almost all 22 national languages of
India.
Adding another feather to his cap in 2019, Vincy was also
recently felicitated at the 31st Conference of All India Konkani Parishad.
“Goa is the only state in India with Konkani as its state
language. It is indeed a joy to see the work done for the development of
Konkani. In all their plans and policies towards the language, the Goa
government should keep in mind the Konknni speaking people living outside Goa,”
says Vincy.
He
has also won awards from Goa Konknni Akademi, Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr,
Konknni Bhasha Mandal, ‘Jivit’ (monthly magazine) and the Dalgado Konknni
Akademi in literature and journalism.
