With the sole idea of making good films, Brijesh Kakodker
and Siddhesh Naik started Narad Films and with it, their first project, short
film ‘One Last Time’. A year down the line, the film has been selected for the
Pune Short Film Festival 2014. Feeling appreciated and proud of their first
attempt at filmmaking, the duo is excited about the screening.
‘One Last Time ‘ is a story of a modern family living in
the upper echelon of society. It explores various emotions people face in daily
life, highlighting different dimensions of relationships. Directed by Brijesh
and written and edited by Siddhesh, the film’s cast includes Bhupesh Bandekar,
Ruhi Chatim and Mohandas Surlakar. Cinematographer for the film is done by
Ashwin (Ashoo) Dhond, with music by Gohar Chanekar, light design by Pragat
Naik, make up by Sailee Kakodker and production assistance by Amey Shirodker.

“The strength and weakness of a short film is duration.
While working on this short film, we had to cut out all unnecessary footage to
get our idea across to the audience within seven minutes. The film had to be
short and crisp,” says Brijesh.
Siddhesh, an alumnus of Whistling Woods International
Film School, had written nearly six drafts before zeroing in on this one. “This
is our first in-house production and we wanted it to be perfect. The story is
about how relationships are changing with modern times and the challenge was
introducing the characters and their relationships and connecting them to the
audience within a short span of time,” he says.
Bhupesh Bandekar, a practising lawyer by profession but
an actor by passion, was selected as the lead for the film. “I have done nearly
ten short films in the past. The film industry in Goa is a small and upcoming
one and everyone has a great relationship with each other. We need to make
better cinema that not only caters to Goa but can be watched around the world,”
says Bhupesh who’s only acting education was watching films.
Ashwin (Ashoo) Dhond, one of the youngest members in the
team, is a student of Don Bosco, Panjim. An avid photographer, his photographs
made an impact on Brijesh who brought him onboard for the film, “This was my
first project in video. I am still learning so I planned the shot division in
advance. The experience was fun.”
For the sound effects, Brijesh and Siddhesh went back to
the different locations where the film was shot to get the right sound
recording which was then added to the film.
Talking about their experience shooting, Siddhesh says,
“The entire shooting for the film was done in one night itself. Bhupesh was a
perfect professional as he would immediately get into character and once the
take was done, he was back laughing and joking with us.” Brijesh adds, “We
built a great relationship with our cast and crew during the making of the
film. This rapport will help us with our future projects as well.”
Post the Pune Short Film Festival, the film will be sent
to some more film festivals following which, it will be screened in Goa.
