“Nothing should be violent, we all are
civilised people. I think it is a very quiet protest.” These were the words of Oscar-winning
composer, A R Rahman, while analysing the remarks made by actor, Aamir Khan.
The NFDC Film Bazaar, an annually organised market where delegates buy, sell,
exhibit and pitch their content brought Rahman to Goa’s shores to be a part of
the NFDC Knowledge Series sessions.
During the session, Palomi Ghosh, of
Konkani blockbuster, ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ fame, who was also a part of the
session, is known to be very keen on working with Rahman and asked him whether
she could sing for his upcoming project, to which he affably replied “Surprise
me by singing for me.” To this, Ghosh went on to perform two songs in Konkani
from Nachom-ia Kumpasar.

This producer has had privileged of
meeting internationally acclaimed musicians and singers like pop superstar
Michael Jackson, Celina, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and many more. When he was
asked about his interaction with pop superstar Jackson, he said “I am still a
big fan of Michael Jackson. I still get inspired by him. When we met each
other, we spent almost two hours together. It remains one of my most memorable
moments of my life.”
Speaking about whether particular
characters inspire him when composing music, he explained, “That is obvious!
Sometimes, it’s just like that, but then characters have important part in
composing music for films. It all depends on the movie, what it needs.”
He went on to explain what it would
take, in order to produce good filmmakers in India, “We need to know much more
about world culture and psychology. We should always be open to learning more,”
he stated.
Rahman also went on to speak about the future
of Indian classical musicians, saying “There are different raagas in classical
music. We all are learners; there is no perfect musician. Everyone needs to delve
into this music on a day to day basis,” said Rahman.
Since A R Rahman is a big-name
producer, he is believed that he is often beyond the reach of young filmmakers.
Attempting to bust this myth, he replies “It is not so. I am willing to accept a
project if the script is interesting. Some youngsters come to me only because
having my name on their project will add value to it. However, the story in
itself needs to excite me.”
