CHINCHINIM: Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda defeated St Rita’s High School, Maina- Curtorim 1-0 and lifted the 4th St Joseph Vaz trophy in the final of the St Joseph Vaz Memorial Under-17 inter-school football tournament, organized by Mount’s Mary’s High School, Chinchinim, at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim on Wednesday.
Both teams played an attacking match. It was Jordan Borges who netted the lone goal of the match which proved to be the match-winner for Rosary’s in the 6th minute with a power-packed shot. Player of the tournament and man of the final Jovel Dias of St Rita’s missed two great sitters in the 23rd and 30th minutes. Rosary in the second half guarded the fort and prevented the St Rita’s strikers from entering the defence lines of Rosary till the final whistle.
The winners were awarded Rs 10,000 and runners-up collected Rs 7,000 and trophies.
Filipe Neri Rodrigues, MLA of Velim constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in the presence of Fr Jose Antonio Da Costa parish priest of Chinchinim church, Franco Martins, Martin D’Costa, Fr Joism De Souza, Johnston Rebeiro and Mario Vales and other dignitaries and school officials.
