One date, seven films

September 19 will see 7 films, including two big banner films, compete for space and success

As Aditya Chopra’s production house decided
to postpone the Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra starrer ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’
to September 19, the number of films releasing on that date went up to 7.
Although, the decision of Yash Raj camp to postpone was due to the film’s
promotion, which needs more time, this has left other producers fighting for
space.

One project, titled ‘3 AM’, postponed its
release date because of the overcrowded box office weekend. However, six other
films – ‘Khoobsurat’, starring Sonam Kapoor; Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Ugly’;
‘Tamanchey’ starring Richa Chaddha; ‘Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami’ starring Neha
Dhupia and Anupam Kher; ‘Balwinder Singh… Famous Ho Gaya’ starring Shaan and
Mika; and ‘Roar’ directed by yesteryear actor Kamal Sadanah – will still be
fighting for screen space.

According to trade experts, Yash Raj and
Disney will dominate the screens, thanks to their brand value. Others feel that
since all the films cater to different audiences, everyone will get their
share. However, the over-crowding of films on one date has forced some
production houses to push their release dates. Abhinav Shukla, producer of
‘Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami’, says, “The date has become crowded. For us, it is a
tentative date right now. We will meet with our distributor and decide the road
ahead.”
