There’s always an exchange of ideas among members of the Goan artist community, with
possible future projects being a common topic of discussion. A conversation of
this nature between three Goan artists resulted in the creation of a join art
exhibition, aimed at not only showcasing their individual skill but also
showcasing Goa in a different light.
“There is so much happening nowadays that the old culture is
slowly dying and we are forgetting the ways of the past. I wanted to go back to
the basics that were a big part of Goa’s culture – from the dressing sense of
the tribal people to the cooking style in the olden days, where clay plots and
other earthenware were used,” says Inacio M Alvares, one of the three artists
whose works will be showcased. His work at the exhibition will include acrylic on
canvas.
Inacio is known for his paintings, murals and portraits and has
had successful exhibitions in the past. He has worked on churches, chapels,
Goan homes and has his work sold in India, UK, Sweden, Canada, Germany,
Denmark, Australia and Russia. He has also given art classes and conducted
numerous workshops in Goa.
Arnesto Borges a
graphic designer and photographer, is known for his work on stone. Arnesto
reveals that he discovered this medium and his talent at a time when he was
confined to his home after an accident and he started trying it out as a means
to
kill time. His first work on a pebble garnered a lot of praise
and since then, he has been challenging himself with different references to
test his skills on stone painting. “My whole perspective and objective of this
exhibition is to create scope for stone painting as a medium and to build an
audience,” he states.
Joseph Franco is known for his specialisation in etching print
making. Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acid or mordant to
cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in
intaglio (incised) in the metal. Through his work, he likes to depict various
forms of nature, using elements like birds, sea, forest, dreamy landscapes and
how they all blend together. His work has been picked up at restaurants, bars
and night clubs. Joseph feels that he is always in search of a way to capture a
design trail that shows our world in a different way, beyond what is ordinarily
seen.
