Independence
Day is here, and with it, the usual suspect of events. But one standout that
all of Goa has grown accustomed to on this day for the last 12 years is The
Battle Events.
Having
started out in 2003 with the rock show, Battle of the Bands, the franchise has
since grown. The first ever event was held at Club Westend in Saligao, in a
time that preceded the 10 pm sound ban. Some of Goa’s biggest names
participated in the first edition alongside a few college bands. The show only
grew in popularity as there were no rock shows at the time that focused purely
on live music.
“Within two
years we got a lot of requests from DJs and dancers to include them in our
event. Not wanting to turn anyone away, in the beginning we allowed the DJs and
dancers to perform while the rock bands were setting up their sound on stage.
But very soon, due to the ever-increasing demand for the same, we decided to
add two more events on the same day – Battle of The DJs and Battle of the Dance
Floor. The last two editions have also seen the inclusion of Battle of the
Stars,” says Keith Fernandes, founder of Slipdisc Advertising and Events.
Over the
years, the Battle Events have had a loyal following, some right from 2003. The
audience has literally grown up with this show. Some of the older musicians who
participated in the first show today have their children participating in the
2014 edition of the show.
This year,
Raagas to Riches will have a headlining performance at the Battle of the Bands
and Ryan Sparx will do the same for Battle of The DJs. If there’s one place to
be this Independence Day, it is the Battle Events!
