Saligao girl wins second runner-up at World Beauty Pageant

Nakita Fernandes won hearts at the World Beauty Queen 2019 Pageant with her poise and intellect. The Saligao girl was crowned the second runner-up, the highest placement for an Indian participant in this competition

Nakita
Tania Fernandes from Saligao represented India at the upcoming edition of World
Beauty Queen 2019 international modelling competition in South Korea and won
the second runner-up title. World Beauty Queen is an international modelling
competition in South Korea. Nakita is the first and only Indian model to enter
the top 3 of said international pageant. She also holds the record of achieving
the highest placement from India in the history of the World Beauty Queen
competition. “The feeling is so overwhelming; it’s like a dream come true.

The Miss
World India tag instils a sense of gratitude and pride that I’ve achieved. By
God’s grace, I’ve come up so far in my life and I am thankful to my family and
a few close friends, who have always supported and encouraged me to believe in
myself and follow my dreams,” says Nakita, the 19-year-old daughter of Louis
and Denise Fernandes and elder sister of Benson and Jacob.

For the
competition, Nakita was up against 28 other contestants and had to follow a
certain lifestyle routine to remain fit. “I used to go to the gym because we
were expected to look lean and thin. We had to have the vital statistics to
match at least 32-26-36 maximum. I was 31-26-36. We managed to maintain my
physique. Monty Sally was my mentor for the walk, who helped me get better in
my turns and to walk in 6.5 inch heels. My height was less compared to the
other girls so I had to train in bigger and higher heels. Seema helped in
make-up. My mother and I worked on my questions,” says Nakita.

Currently
in the second year studying Business Administration at Sarawat Vidyalaya’s
Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, Nakita is also
thankful to her college that lets her work in a profession like modelling,
where travelling is required. “They have always been supportive and encouraged
me without thinking about my attendance,” says Nakita.

When it
comes to her future plans, modelling will be her priority and she hopes to
venture into other fields like acting, singing and anchoring. “My message to
young aspiring Goan models is that you owe yourself to become everything you’ve
ever dreamt of. You don’t reach by just talking about it; you have to work
towards it and it’s only you who can do it for yourself. This field teaches you
the importance of time, beauty, self-care, being confident in your own skin,
respecting everyone’s flaws, voicing out your opinion and being a source of
inspiration to all. Modelling is definitely a challenging career, but if you
have the right attitude and passion for it, then there’s no profession like
this. The days that break you are the days that make you,” she concludes.
