world by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability survey of 140 cities,
Adelaide in South Australia has excelled in areas of healthcare, education,
stability, culture and environment and infrastructure. And now, tourism is set
to get a major boost with South Australia Tourism Commission (SATC) pulling out
all stops to showcase the entire South Australia state as a major tourism
destination for Indian tourists.
Whether the interest lies in wineries or wildlife,
festivals or faith, museums or malls, coastline or cuisine, greenery or
glamour, SATC is confident there are various attractions for Indian tourists
throughout the year.

“India is one of South Australia’s priority markets
for the promotion of tourism and the SATC has recently launched the ‘India
Strategy 2020’ which aims to attract more Indian visitors to South Australia,”
says SATC Chief Executive Rodney Harrex.
The focus on the Indian tourist in South Australia has
received a major boost with South Australia’s perfectly-timed masterstroke in
securing the bid to host the thrilling encounter between world champions Indian
and archrivals Pakistan at the iconic Adelaide Oval stadium for the ICC Cricket
World Cup 2015.
“Adelaide and South Australia will experience a significant
increase in Indian visitors around this match and the ten days prior, when the
Indian cricket team will be calling Adelaide home while they prepare for the
tournament,” added Harrex.
The SATC is keen to showcase South Australia’s wide
assortment of attractions, most of which are easily accessible from Adelaide
city. For the record, South Australia has the world’s largest Christmas pageant
parade, the largest collection of Aboriginal artifacts in the Southern
Hemisphere, the largest undercover market in the Southern Hemisphere,
Australia’s first caravan and the world’s first soil mapping of vineyards at
McLaren Vale.
For Goan visitors, the Roman Catholic cathedral in
Adelaide City will be of special significance as it is dedicated to St Francis
Xavier. In fact, one of the saint’s relics (right arm) was venerated at the SFX
cathedral in Adelaide for two days in October 2012.
Described as Australia’s festival state, South
Australia is renowned for its various festivals throughout the year. These
festivals include the Santos Tour Down Under Cycling Festival (January), Cellar
Door Wine Festival (February), the Adelaide Festival, the Adelaide Fringe
Festival, WOMADelaide and Clipsal 500 motor race (March), among others.
